    Wiring Heat Tape

I am planning on putting a snake rack together to house 6 41qt tubs. I want to put a 1 foot heat tape under one end of the tub. This means I will have 6 1 foot sections of heat tape with six cord and plugs. I would like to consolidate the six cords and plugs into one cord and plug. Is this possible without being a fire hazard? Is there any better way?

All you need to do is daisy chain them together. Wire a single plug to one strip of heat tape, then take a set of wires without a plug and wire the other side of the heat tape to the next piece of heat tape. Repeat this process until all of the heat tape is wired in a single strip.

The other option is to just use a single strip of flexwatt and snake it through the rack.

    Re: Wiring Heat Tape

Deja Vu ! I just built one....except mine is 7 shelves, but we'll call it the same I wired mine in series using 9" per shelf. My thought was that 9" is about 30% of the actual inside length of a 41Q Sterilite tub. I used the new Heat Tape from Reptile Basics because you can cut it @ any length (between heat elements). My only beef was that the heat is not exactly the same @ each position, but they were close enough. Mine has been in action for 10 days and my snakes are loving it

Best wishes and as always...remember your thermostat and plan on the open spacing for your wires. GOOD luck.
