    Looking for book recommendations

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good book about either snakes or reptiles/amphibians in general to get as a present for my 9year old? It doesn't need to be a kids book, but the reading level shouldn't be too technical. He really enjoys science books, especially ones with nice photography, so I was hoping to find one for his snake obsession. Thanks for the help!

    Re: Looking for book recommendations

Very few are actually aimed at young readers, but they aren't overly technical anyway. Check your local city library or give them a call. I know mine has a LOT of snake/reptile books and are mostly centered around pictures. That would be a good place to start.

    Real live librarian here!

I actually made a snake book list for our website, and there were a few kid-appropriate books on there. My favorite children's book about snakes is this one - http://www.amazon.com/Verdi-Janell-C...keywords=verdi - but it's an actual children's book aimed more at the 4-6 year old category. So for a 9 year-old I'd go more with something like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Awesome-Snake-...+snake+science (perfect for a science lover, but more of a science project book)
    http://www.amazon.com/The-Encycloped...pd_sim_sbs_b_8
    http://www.amazon.com/Snake-Chris-Ma...ref=pd_sim_b_1
http://www.amazon.com/Great-Big-Book...book+of+snakes (I have this one myself - it's huge and full of photos)

I'll let you know if I think of any more!
