Okay, so I took a nap for 2 hours today (I'm on vacation), and when I woke up I immediately went to check on my new snake (name coming soon by the way). Well, the first thing I noticed was that the newpaper substrate was soaked! His waterbowl didn't look like it had been moved or knocked over, and there was still a little water in the dish, but there was mostly just water everywhere, and the humidity had moved up to 81%! (It was 66% before I took my nap).

So the first thing I wanted to do was give him dry newspaper, so I took him out and put him in a smaller rubbermaid and started taking stuff out of the enclosure. Low and behold, I FOUND POOP! I guess he gave himself a little bath and the poop was the result? LOL. I didn't think I'd have poop this soon. (No, I didn't take a picture of it.) So I kept him out and cleaned and disinfected his enclosure.

Do you think his water dish is not sturdy enough if there was water everywhere? It's a 6" terra cotta dish from Home Depot that goes under pots.

    (Sorry for the long post.)

Nope, it's plenty sturdy, but he either dragged some water out along with his body or expelled some fluid along with the poo. Sounds like a good way to start getting settled in, LOL.

I agree thats a sturdy water dish so theres no way he'd tip it unless he was trying to anyways i agree just sounds like he brought some water out with him or again the liquid from his poop or it could be a mixture of both. Anyways glad to hear hes doing good so far. Post some pics if you get the chance.

my snakes saok the paper everytime they poop.i always thought that urates were supposed to be some efficient way of expelling uric acid without peeing and thereby saving water in their body. but they have plenty of fluid with their poop. thats probably all it was. havent you only had this snake for a day? an poop already? lucky you! lol.

Cross topic to the "Are Ball Pythons Boring?" topic:

They must not be that boring. Look how excited we get when they do something as mundane as pooping...
We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.
