    Re: Reptile scan?

In January, I'm going to be upgrading my rack systems to get something a little more efficient. Better racks + better thermostat = better record keeping system. I'm also going to be updating my name tags with QRS codes. I'll probably be downloading this app so I can manage things on my phone in case I don't have my hard-copy record book right next to me. Right now, I'm just using iHerp and I like it. I just can't have QRS codes for my snakes nor can I keep the info on my phone using iHerp. I'd say go for it! I know there are a couple of people on here that use it and if I remember correctly, they like it!

Yup I use it. i love the software the best IMO of the ones I have seen. It allows for multiple entries by multiple people it makes tracking easy if you are not alone in doing tasks. I sometimes find the massive amount of things under actions a bit annoying but it does make some sense to have them there. The QR code system works super well and also being able to group animals to a single code makes universal tasks easy (for example I have my rack as a group and my enclosures as a second group) I can mark all the rack as having fresh water and the enclosures by scanning the two group codes. Rather than the individual ones. It is a great app. mine is for the iphone but I suspect they are basically the same.

Have you seen the review on YouTube that says the app sucks? If you have seen it have you had the same problems?

I just watched it. There are some points that are true but not much. The problems the video guy had are based in trying to do everything on a phone. Making a manual entry on the wrong day like he speaks of so much on a phone is silly. When you enter on the computer you get a pop up calendar just select the correct day. Yes it can be done on the phone but why? If you are a day or two late entering records the computer is faster. The wish for custom fields is a big point. I wish it did too but vyper seems to be gone and the alternative degei to get it and the scanner is really for big breeders, I am not. I don't think it is appropriate for a large organization really nor was it made for that. Smaller scale (100 animals or less) operations can likely make good use of the software and not fall over the price tag of the degei (1000$). It is cheap software really 20 bucks or maybe it is 30 I don't recall at the moment I love it and use it all the time. There is new features added at least three times including my suggestion I made of exporting a PDF of each animal which it now does just fine. Most of the issues he spoke of have been updated or were always there and he failed to understand all the ins and outs of it. (I got it just after it was released and on sale) The only point that is still very valid is the multiple scanning for each action although if I do a full clean that includes fresh water so I don't bother separating them and deification field has a nice little # 1 or 2 and I think we can all figure out that. I wish there were custom fields but the desire for not making multiple scans for a single animal is not a big deal to me I often if there is a bunch just open the web page from the computer and make the extra entries. It isn't perfect nothing is but it is reasonable priced and easy and fast to use. Better than most software I deal with everyday all in all.
