off feed question
My BP girl has been off feed for 3 weeks now and I know that things like this is normal for Balls but I've heard that most don't lose weight while off.she has lost 30g at least since she stopped. I have been offering once a week but she hasn't taken anything.I'm not to worried cause she acts normal but idk I guess I'm still to new in reptile care.
P.S. Also not sure how many time you can re freeze a rat I was told only once.
P.S.S. I am going to be gone for three days wed-fri I don't really want to leave her alone when she isn't eating I guess I'm just being paranoid but I think if I bring her with me it will just stress her out going from a 6000ft elevation to around a 1500 elevation.

3 weeks isn't much time at all and the 30g weight loss could almost be from a single bowel movement. heh I wouldn't worry about bringing your snake with you for 3 days. You're right in thinking that the stress would probably out-weigh any benefits of having her closer to you.
As far as re-freezing rodents. I never take the chance. Once it's been thawed once, I just toss it. I'll also usually leave the prey item in with the ball python over night. Some of my best eater will only eat when I leave it in there for them. Other snakes I don't bother with. I haven't found many animals that pickup this behavior. Either they'll do it regularly or not at all. Definitely something to try to see if you can get away with it. I just have to remember to remove the rodent first thing in the morning.
Continue to monitor weight loss, but you probably have nothing to worry about unless she continues to lose weight at that pace.
Good luck and hope her fast ends soon!

She did poop last week,I didn't think about that weight that makes me feel better.
Thanks,I have left a rat overnight and she didn't take it so I tossed it. She acts hungry but doesn't take anything haha I will keep track of her weight and see if she is losing anymore. thanks for the help on that.

The weight she's at is the normal time a lot of females hit the wall persay. We hate it but many females hit the 1000 gram wall when we are trying to get them up to weight for breeding. They are notorious for going off feed right around the 900-1200 gram point. There isn't much you can do except to keep offering weekly until she decides to eat again.
Try some of the tricks of the trade.. Change the bedding in the enclosure to something different. Take her for a long car ride in a tied pillow case. Offer her something different to eat. Offer her a smaller food item. Maybe you'll get lucky.

My pastel male has been off feed since september. Theyre just stuborn. Keep trying and dont get your hopes up. Also having a sit down talk with them usually doenst help, but its nice to vent to the snake and let them know that they will be sent to time out if they dont eat their dinner soon. :p

I'm interested in this cause my girl has been off feed for a month. Not trying to hijack. How would taking them in the car in a pillow case work? Other ways?
