    chocolate gene

What does the chocolate gene do to a pinstripe? I purchased a pinstripe that was poss chocolate. What do I need to look for to be able to tell. I am going to breed her this year and I know I will be able to tell after that but I would like to know what to look for on her. Are there markers what does it do to the pin gene etc

Thanks for your help in advanced
    Danny

Chocolate is a co-dominant gene, so you can't be "het" or "possible het" for it. You're either chocolate, or your not. So there won't be any markers to look for. If there's a doubt what your snake is, it's probably just a pinstripe. Show a picture and we can tell you for sure.

Here's a comparison of a Chocolate Pinstripe breeder and a regular Pinstripe. It's not really hard to tell at all if it's got Chocolate in it. Post a pic of her and lets see!

Well, I mean right of the bat if you bought it as het choc and that isn't possible, then your pin isn't choc. If you possibly misheard, that's a different story.

Could very well have been a case of "She's a pin, pairing was chocolate x pinstripe, she's darker than the others, but I can't really tell for sure...so she might be a chocopin? I dunno, I'll sell as a pin"
Rather than the whole het thing. There are tons of people that sell morphs that are possible for a incomplete dominant, especially newbies who don't know how to tell the difference very well. Pin vs chocolate pin seems like a hard one to swallow for not being able to tell, but who knows! Maybe the pin was super dark or something More often you see "Possible yellow belly" or other more subtle morphs.

You have it correct. I know its a pin. It was sold strictly as a pin but the breeder said it might possibly be a choc too. it is darker in coloration then normal it seems. I was just wondering how you could tell but I will def post a picture. There is a good chance it is just a pin but I am curious and would like some opinions on the matter.
