as you all know, my baby BP, rex, has been snapping at me even when i walk by the tank. well, good news. he just got out of shed, which was perfect, the other day. yesterday, i wanted to start handling him again so i decided to try and wait till nightfall. so night came, and i made my way up to my room. i removed his hide box where he was hiding. i slowly reach my hand into his tank and picked him right up. he didnt even snap at me once! so i had him out about 5min then put him away. during the 5min, i sat down and sat him on my lap. he just layed there, flickering his toung. well, i decided to do the same thing today. i got him out, he didnt snap at me at all again, and he was really calm. i sat on my floor, holding him in my hand. he was balled up, but really calm. he eventually moved his head out a little bit, and started flickering his toung. i kept him out for about 7min, then put him away. hes starting to trust me more. i owe everything to you guys, without all your help, i would be totally lost. thanks for all your help and advice.

That's great! It can definitely take them a while to get used to handling, but if you can demonstrate to them that it's not an unpleasant experience enough times, they'll almost always learn to relax with you.

that's awesome news. my older ball pythons have become what i consider to be tame. it's not really like you have to schedule handling your snake. after a while, when you've had it for say a year or so... you'll be so used to it, you'll consider it tame as well. when they grow with you, they get to know you. with or without a persistant handling schedule. good luck, and even if it snaps a few times... don't worry, it'll calm down.

I can just hear the snake's thoughts.......

"I'm finally getting him tame! He was so gentle when he took me out today. He didn't squeeze too hard or move too fast. Just a few more months of consistent training and I'll have a great little slave to bring me dinner!"

Hey man, I am so happy to hear that you & Rex are doing so well! It really is a great feeling when they start to trust you. I totally know what you mean too, when you say that the people at this forum are life savers! If not for them, i don't know that I would be nearly as successful as I am in caring for Hissy! I must say though that I owe my biggest thanks to Tigergenesis because she helped me through those first few critical days & even more importantly, she is the reason that i found these forums! Thanks TG!
Life is like a game of poker. You can play each hand to the best of your ability but you are still going to run into a bad beat from time to time. What matters is how you handle it. Do you go on tilt or can you maintain your composure & rebuild your stack?
