What is an acceptable variation temp. for a thermostat..

if a company claims that its thermostats are precisely .1 -+ should they be held to that. The reason I ask is I bought three thermostats from a company as the first one was dead on pretty much. The other two have been 2.2-3 -+ what the other one says and what the temp gun states(together). Should I have them replace them or just get my money back. Their intended use was to regulate 11" flexwatt heat tape for Ball Pythons. Thank you

    What thermostats are you using?

I don't know of any thermostat that can keep (or are rated for) +/- 0.1 degrees accuracy. Herpstats have an internal resolution of 0.1125 degrees but are only accurate to 0.9 degree.

YES companies should be held to their specs! No doubt!!

The problem is the specs of the T-stat is better than the specs on any and every temp gun. They are not that accurate. There are no T-stats made for use with reptiles that have that much accuracy I never seen any that fine. I would also suggest you are looking at resolution not accuracy. Very few have even 1/2 way accurate thermometers, check your specs on the ones you use and see. Many here the best they can manage is units +/-2ºF and in many cases are using ones that are 2ºC (4ºF or so).
