Creating background for my ballpython

I want to create a background for my ballpython

I am going to use polystyren, grout and waterbased paint.

But what should I use for coating?

And how should i fix the plastic plants to for it to be safe for my snake?

For ease of cleaning and disinfecting you may just want to look towards the stick on type that go on the outside of the glass. May not be as cool since you didn't make it yourself, but will probably be easier in the long run.

If you're using a tank, I've seen background inserts you could use. Or the aquarium background poster stuff.

I´ve really set my mind to making a rocky surface background. I will try to make it as easy to clean as possible.

No bigger crevasses for example.

I am not sure what to use for coating.

I was told to use, what we call in danish "Shipvarnish" directly translated. I think its called "Clear varnish" But still not sure what to use

I have build a few smaller bits that fit together. It is easier to clean a small section than a large one IME. I followed the links directions basically. It works fine although when I scrub with a brush I pull off some of the grout sometimes. I used extra large rare earth magnets to hold it to the back wall and hold the sections together. The magnets were 1/8 x 1 inch round with a 30 lbs pull.
