    New Green Tree Python

Alright guys, so I've been in a debate with myself over the last few weeks about getting out of my normal Jungle Carpet Python project and diving into Chondros, Carpondros, and Jagpondros eventually. . . So I made the important start of the decision to sell off my last remaining trio of normal Jungles (Still have plenty of other carpets for those who worry, just no normals!). I got a call from a local gentleman who offered up a trade for an adult Green Tree Python with a setup (that is currently sitting with my other old tanks), for the normal yearling trio of JCP's. . . after discussing the snakes health, getting it's history the best I could, and looking at many pictures, I agreed to meet up with him and see the snake in person to work out the trade. We met up the next day and the snake was very mellow, but was also slightly dehydrated (not near death mind you, or showing any signs of RI, so it may have been a recent issue). The snake was inquisitive and had a good body mass. They said it had been feeding on live rat pups for a few months now, but would take f/t without a problem (definitely had my doubts there, but gave them the benefit of the doubt). So we made the trade, and both felt like we had made off great.

I set up a 2x2x2 PVC cage freshly cleaned and set up on a herpstat to have a nice place for the GTP. For the first few hours, he would not perch, but drank from the bowl, rested in the water, and then sought out heat. I decided to increase his humidity to 100% and keep his temperatures around 85 on the hottest point, and 80 for an ambient. Woke up the next morning, and he was in the traditional perching position, filled out where he once looked a little dehydrated, and was not interested in me touching him (which is how I wanted him to react for now!). So I let him be . . . last night I went ahead and offered him a f/t adult mouse. . . he laughed at it by biting it and then spitting it up with me still holding it on tongs . . . he did this 3 times and finally put his head back in his coils . . . so I then offered a f/t rat pup on the larger side, and he instantly went ape and pounded the rat, eating it with zero issues.

This morning, I found his first healthy bowel movement, a knocked over accurite hygrometer, and a content snake perched in the same place I had been leaving him. So for your enjoyment, here are the fresh pictures of my newest Green Tree Python, Morelia viridis, locale is in debate right now - previous owner had no clue. Talking with a few people believe there to be Aru in him, but right now one of the more trained eyes (Ryan over at Clockwork), suspects there to be Jaya, Sorong, or Afark in it. These pictures do not do the blue on his back justice!

(shot of his tail incase anyone would like to throw in comments on locale).

I'll add more when I pull out my better equipment, this was just with my Nikon Mirrorless I had around :-)

    Cheers
