I guess it's now my turn to get the short end...
Well, I've made helpful suggestions and tried to give advice, so now I'm gonna take my turn and ask the same from you guys...
So, let's paint the picture: me, sick and sore throat, bare foot and in sleep pants. Just dropped my room mate off at work. Headed back home, half way there, take a right turn and then BANG, skid, no movement. Great, I have a flat tire (or so I thought). Try and turn the wheel, limp it out of the way, no go. Skip a bunch of crap, a cop and tow truck later, the mechanic shop I go to is talk $700-$1000 to get it fixed. I paid $650 for the thing, and what broke isn't what we thought was wrong with it! The ball joint has come out, leaked out all of our power steering fluid and may need the axel support strut replaced if the hole hasn't been bored out too much.
That's not even the best part. So I tell the shop, I can't do it, and then the tow guy says "well, I need to be paid right now". Great, I don't have the 130 for the tow he wants to charge when the tow place across the street from the mechanic runs 80 (which I've had to use
Before! POS).
So, now, I have to give him my car because I cant pay to fix it, and I don't have the money to pay for it (my insurance makes me pay for it first, and then reimburses me, worst idea ever). So, currently I'm sitting at a car wash (the irony!) waiting on a friend of my wife's to give me a ride to clean everything out of my car so he can have it.
On top of that, I'm having terrible reception on my iPhone (OF ALL THINGS!) and my day just couldn't get any better. Gotta find a way to work for tomorrow, and then some how get home (which I live half way across town) and then try and get enough money to get something to drive (thankfully I don't work this weekend).
This just blows, I wish cars were free.
Oh, and to top everything off, I might get 210 this pay check if I'm able to even make it to work tomorrow and friday. Because I've been sick, I've had to call in. :/

That sounds just like my life.
For what it's worth, cars do suck. I've spent enough to buy a ferrari on lousy cars that just nickle and dime you to death. I've had to help my hubby replace more than a few ball joints over the years, and it's a dirty, hard job.
I am sorry this happened to you. Sometimes it just seems like everything gangs up on you all at one time. For me it happened in the last two weeks. First my mom broke her hip and had to have surgery, and she lives 90 minutes away. I've been driving back and forth every couple of days, and my mini van gets maybe 20 miles to the gallon. Then, two days after she gets transferred to inpatient physical therapy, I'm on my way out to see her and my van starts making a funny, high pitched whining noise, then my battery light comes on. I turn around and head to Auto Zone, where I find out my alternator has gone out. Great, I'm supposed to be at my mom's tonight, and at work tomorrow and now I can't do either. With a little help from my mechanic best friend the alternator gets replaced the next day. Then when I return to work, I have a really hard day and nothing is going right, causing me to have a meltdown in the middle of work. Which resulted in a stress related migraine that lasted for 2 days.
I swear, sometimes I think this much fun should be illegal.

For sure, we're definitely on the same page. The car ran great until about July or August. Then, the battery goes out and it desperately needs an oil change so there went 175 we didn't have. Then, the alternator (fancy that, twinsies!) goes out and the brakes need replacing and the rotars need to be rotated and the passenger window motor needs replacing, but we barely have enough money for the alternator so we go ahead with that, 325 we barely had. And now this. I mean, I get it's an old car (a 1996 model) but it hasn't been driven like it's a race car or a demolition derby car...
Oh well, crap happens to all of us. I just wish I wasn't sick, so I could go to work and just break out my frustration on unloading a truck or two and then feel like I'm making forward progress. But, I'm coughing so much I can barely speak.
