Tub without thermal gradient

I've been trying to find a way to keep Ihys' tub warm both ambient and belly without having to heat up the whole house or trying to rig some lights/infared onto the tub (especially as the lid isn't clear).

I know some big breeders just heat their rooms to a certain mid-point and don't provide any sort of gradient yet the snakes do fine and are happy.
Plus I came across a discussion on another forum while searching about stenothermal vs. eurythermal snakes and that the more terrestrial/nocturnal the snake the more stenothermal they are the more they prefer to have an optimum temperature.

SO I was thinking of rigging some flexwatt on the back wall of his tub and some on the underside and hooking it up to the thermostat at about 82-84 so he'd have a constant appropriate belly temp and ambient temp.

Would this be appropriate?

This can be made to work one wall can be made as radiant heater that can make some difference to air temps. there are two issues radiant heat tends not to heat air but objects these objects heat the air. It is a very inefficient method it can work. I would suggest that the bigger issue is the tub itself, they simply do not hold heat in at all. Very poor insulators, sometimes adding insulation can be effective as well. I would suggest that this will require the use of a proportional t-stat as the snake can easily contact the wall and during an on cycle the temp cane easily be in the 160º range with an on off system.

You could also try a space heater with a built in thermostat.
I was having ambient temp issues and a space heater did the trick. However, I started sleeping on the couch and gave my room to the snakes lol
I have it set on 83 and the ambient temp in the tub stays right at 79 - 80. Heat tape keeps the belly heat around 88.
Not the best option unless you have a spare room. My roommates think im nuts giving up my room,but I can sacrafice a little of my own comfort to keep my animals happy.

Yeah the space heater isn't going to work---my partner would flip if I made him sleep in an 80 degree room and so would I.
Unfortunately we don't have a spare room either and we've got a parrot who's flighted soI'd be worried about her and the space heater.

Kitedemon---can you run that by me again? I've re-read your post a few times and its just not sinking in.

Hi,

Iirc VPI use an ambient temp setup and only provide hot spots when needed.

But that would be even higher than the temps your OH would object too.
