Sterilite Tub Heating

Last year, when Hurricane Irene hit, we had to think fast in order to evacuate with Parker. I bought a sterilite tub from walmart and set it up with all of the necessities. The only thing was I couldn't get the correct heating pad so I used a back heater. It worked, but was a pain because I had to keep adjusting it constantly rather than have it set up to a thermometer like my ZooMed undertank heater I have in his regular habitat. So now, Hurricane Sandy is making her way toward me and our plan is, yet again, to evacuate. This time, I was able to get a second ZooMed mini under tank heater (the one for 1-5 gallon). I realized though, now that I bought it, I'm not sure where to put it. Do I place it on the bottom of the tub? The instructions say to put it on the side, but that would cover some of the air holes, and I also don't see how that helps with UNDER tank heating. Any tips? What do you guys do to heat your tubs? If it does go on the bottom, do I need to prop it somehow?

Where at in N Nj are you? Your evacuating? I'm south of you, there's no way I could take all my animals.... I have to stick it out.
To your question.... Under the bin would be fine. Just bring along you IR thermometer to monitor temps.

thanks! I'm in Morris County NJ, but I live right next to a River. On top of that, even if we don't flood, we are sure to lose power, and I don't want to go that long without having the heat source. I'm lucky. I have a friend in NC that is letting us come down with all the animals (Cat, Snake, Hamster, and Fish). It's going to be a long ride, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus, ROAD TRIP!

Well, the ZooMeds website says you can place it on the side OR under the tank.

Place the UTH on the bottom.
You'll have to raise the tub, usually they come with little risers. If not, glue soda lids to the bottom

Well stay safe in your travels. It would be extremely difficult for me to transport 7 turtles, 12 snakes, 2 cats, a dog and 40 some rodents lol I'll be out with the fire dept as much as I can without risking the safety of my animals.
