size and grams

This is about grams and size.......If my females start the "breeding season" at or around 1500-1700 is it normal/ok for them to drop grams in size durning the first part of the season?

You may see a small drop due to them going off food, very normal for this to happen during breeding season.

If animals stop eating during the season they may drop a little weight however as a breeder you need to determine if this drop is acceptable or if the animal should be pulled out of the breeding rotation. To me the decision to pull animal out an of rotation will be more based on the look/appearance than the weight loss percentage.

I* would be very unhappy if my females lost weight at the beginning of the season.
That is the time when they are feeding up before going off feed and producing eggs.

If its a weight drop you only notice when you put them on the scale, I wouldnt worry. If you can just look at them and see that they are losing weight Id pull them for a few months. You wont miss the season just because you dont pair them in Dec/Jan. I had females this season who didnt see a male until June and still went.
