Just in Case it's Mites?

Not sure if Avalon has Mites or not? Seems I read somewhere of an alternative to PAM.. It was something you buy locally, like Walmart or Tractor Supply..

Anyone know of anything...?

I'm not gonna drop names, but I've seen first hand that the biggest names in the business use this stuff.


I am not going to tell you it's definitely AS safe as PAM, just that I've seen this thread happen enough times to tell you that the snake won't die if you use it properly, once.


Probably any brand of bedding spray with Permethrin as the active ingredient.

Again, this is use at your own risk but I have read enough accounts of it being used successfully and none of a snake death by improper use to feel it will work fine.

I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't use PAM unless you know that you have mites. PAM is really nasty stuff. (Why drop an A-bomb when a grenade will do the job?)

For use as a preventative measure or a just in case measure I would use this, it is safe enough that it can be applied to the animal directly and will give you some piece of mind.

Now if you have a confirmed case of mites then yes nothing works better than PAM and it should be what you use.

I have Provent a mite on hand just in case. But have not personally ever had to wage war with these little buggers.

Yeah that's another thing.. I'm not even sure she has Mites.. Like I said in my soaking post. She has been soaking since a larger meal she had two days ago..

Well, I went and made her mad by taking her out of her dish.. I looked in the water and it looked mostly small pieces of mulch, but there were three small black dots.. I looked at them under a magnifying glass, but couldn't tell if they were bugs or not?

I read that the PAM is really strong and knew I had read of something else... That's why I asked. I can get the PAM, that isn't the problem..

I would bet the three small spots are mites. They just don't really ever soak themselves unless something is wrong. If you want to check for sure, clean out your substrate, and put her on papertowels for awhile. That will make it easy to spot them.
