Help Identify our Dinker! Yellowbelly, Gravel, or just a hot Normal?

    Hey everyone,

We picked up a male dinker about 8 months ago, however, haven't been able make an accurate guess on his genetics. Ultimately, we are going to have to pair him with a female yellowbelly to test his genetics out.

He displays a blushed head, flames stretching the length of his body, tons of flecking, and a very yellow belly.

Here are some pictures I just took. Let me know what y'all think!

    Thanks,
    Michael

I can see why you would think YB. And it very well could be, I don't want to tell you otherwise cus I'm no YB expert. But I would definitely breed him and see what comes from it.

I don't have enough experience with any of those morphs besides yellowbelly to tell you, but I can tell you I do NOT think that is a yellowbelly. I agree, he has flames and blushing and a yellow coloration on the belly.

However, there should be a clean lane all the way down the belly. On yours there is speckling directly in the middle of the belly. That's not a good sign for yellowbelly. Also, I don't think there is enough flaming. The flames should start right at the yellow on the belly.

Also, check out this great guide: http://www.nextworldexotics.com/hgyb.htm

Looks more like a specter than anything, but I wouldn't say that it is for a fact a specter...

    Haas line Specter...

Re: Help Identify our Dinker! Yellowbelly, Gravel, or just a hot Normal?

I was thinking specter too. But, the thing about specter is that they look like so many other dinker normals. The only way to prove would be to match it with a yellowbelly female and see if you get super stripes, but do you really want to waste a girl's season if it's not a specter?

I feel strongly that it isn't a yellowbelly. It looks like a nice light normal.

I don't know enough about Specters to rule that out, so maybe you do have something there.

    Good luck!

Thanks for all of your input!

And a special thanks to "snakesRkewl" for the pictures.

I would definitely agree he looks much like a Specter, which we are also excited about! Hopefully, we can prove him out this season.
