Herpstat 2 help!

My herpstat 2 is set to proportional which is called the "dimming" setting however it's acting like non proportional, the "pulse" setting and I am confused. Anyone know how to fix this?

The dimming flutters the power to the heater basically it runs a constantly variable dimmer. Pulse switches the power off and on never allowing it to cool or to heat too much (very quickly 15-30 times a second). Both the heat devise should produce constant temps consistent with the set point and probe (assuming the probe is in contact. If it is not behaving like this I'd shoot Dion an email he is very fast at responding.

Cause the radiant heat panel is off. The probe for the herpstat is reading 82, which is on top of the radiant heat panel and is set to 80. My thermometer is on the floor which is reading 79. Should the radiant heat panel be completely off in proportional mode?

Yes, the thermostat will completely cut power if the set temperature is breached.

Ok the probe is reading 82 and you have a set point of 80 and the heat is off. This is correct you are over temp on the probe the power will shut down until the probe drops to 79.9. The thermometer should be close to the probes temp if it is in the same location and is good accuracy. keep in mind most thermometers are +/-2ºF accuracy and the herpstat is +/- 0.9ºF so it is quite possiable that it will not read the same. Some thermometers are rated to +/-2ºC (4ºF) some of the accurites carry this spec it is quite likely that is going to be very different.

Ok, thanks for the help. I am also monitoring temps with a temp gun. My acurite is off 2 degrees. I know this because I have another acurite that gives me the same readings as my temp gun and other thermostat that is monitoring temps on a UTH.
