    Advice on Purchase(s)!?

    Hello everyone,

I came across an ad for 2012 hatchlings that I seriously can't seem to ignore...

    0.1 Butter Pastel 74g -- $450 shipped --2 meals (both hopper mice)
    0.1 Firefly 68g -- $700 shipped -- 2 meals (both rat pups)

They will be ready to ship as soon as they have at least 4 meals in them.

The problem you ask? I could NOT find any BOI for the seller! Her name is Jeanean Bourn (colorfulcollection on fauna). I texted and emailed. She responded promptly. Then I went ahead, called, and inquired. She was very polite and friendly. Answered all my questions and even considered doing a payment plan if I really wanted. In addition to the pictures in the ad, she sent me four pictures of the females post first shed. She even sent me pictures of the parents and BOY am I impressed. (Or it could be that I'm really over excited ... ) So far, the experience has been good.

Anywho, I'd like to hear people's advice. Are these good prices for female double morphs? And do you think I should make the purchase even though I can't find her on the BOI?

    Thanks for reading!

P.S. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the pictures she sent me since they are hers.

Don't know the going rate for those morphs honestly but my advice is that you post an inquiry thread on Fauna's BOI and see if anyone else has worked with her lately/successfully. If you don't want to do that then I suggest at least paying with a CC so you have a better chance of getting your money back if things turn sour.

Those seem like good prices for those 2 girls as long as they are quality animals, which it sounds like they are.
And you may be able to get alittle more knocked off in a package deal since it wouldn't cost anymore to ship both of them compared to just one of them.

As far as not finding anything on the BOI, don't necessarily take that as a bad sign. People don't always remember to post Good Guy threads when the have a successful and enjoyable transaction, but will almost always post about a transaction that has gone south. I will be the first to admit that I haven't created a new thread for every positive transaction I have had.
That being said, definitely take Daybreakers advice and post an inquiry thread to attempt to get more information about the seller. And even if you don't get much of a response go by your feelings. It sounds like so far it has been a good experience for you and if it continues to do so I wouldn't hesitate to do business with someone based solely on the fact that there is nothing on the BOI.

Those are excellent prices for those morphs/genetics. I paid $800 for my pastel butter pos. het hypo female and about that much again for my female firefly, so if they're good examples of the morph and are what you're looking for, go for it. Not being able to find anything on the BOI isn't necessarily a negative. You might head over to some of the other snake forums and do what you did here: post a thread asking for any info on her and her animals and see what kind of response you get. It could be she's a small breeder or first-time seller and doesn't have a reputation; go with your gut in that case and like Daybreaker said, PayPal or a credit card would be the way to go so you have a recourse if the deal falls through. Good luck and if you get them, feel free to share some pics!

Tough situation i would say 80% of reptile enthusiast are honest people but there are the other 20% out there looking to make a quick buck. Like KornSnake said if you think hes knowledgeable and not "shady" on the phone you should be fine. People have to start out somewhere but its always best to buy from reputable breeders I learned my lesson and im sure others have been screwed over too and these were from people i thought i could trust just a forewarning.

I've dealt with someone off fauna. They didn't have anything on the BOI, they were a first year seller. The transaction couldn't have went any better, and the price was awesome. She also knocked off a good amount of money as long as I promised to leave her a good guy thread. There was nothing I could complain about, she went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. In the end, I got two amazing snakes for the price of one, and she got an amazing good guy thread started.
Maybe you could see if the seller you are talking to could do the same. Promise an accurate and truthfull review, and see if that might bring the price down.

I have also had good experiences with people that had no trader rating or BOI information. I felt comfortable with the deal and the person and that is what made me decide to go through with it.

One person in particular really stood out. I bought a male pewter from him and we still keep in contact and exchange pictures and advice. Building bonds with other small time keepers is really great and I encourage people to purchase from smaller breeders to help build their reputation!

Most of us are here for the same reason: We love reptiles! Those who are in it for the money are usually easy to spot.

It's very important to understand that no BOI is completely different than a bad BOI. So, there isn't any reason TO trust them but also none NOT to. It's up to you!

I had no rating on the BOI before, and people trusted me.
