We might finally be moving out!
Me and my girlfriend have been dating for almost two and a half years, (it will be two and a half the 27th) and I've been living with her family for the last year. We started a hope chest a year or so ago in the hopes of getting an apartment when she graduated this June, but with my spending habits and our crappy jobs we couldn't afford anything nice that would allow our cat and dog. So as some know we went to get our nursing aide certification. We both just got jobs at a well known hospital about 30 miles away, a bit of a drive, but I worked in that area when I first graduated hs at Walmart making only $8.10/hr driving either a dodge Durango or super beater Volvo and I survived so I'm not really nervous about that.
About a month or so ago my girlfriends great-grandfather passed away at 86, leaving all his world possessions to his last of kin, my girlfriends dad and mom.
Her mom started right away fixing it up as it was in serious need for the fact that being 86 he just gave up with the up keep of the house which he himself built back in the 50s.
It still needs some work, but we are looking at a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom, with a full upstairs (is another bedroom but due to it not being insulated its just going to be closed off).
Me and my girlfriend and her mom have been talking really seriously the last couple days and it looks like we will be helping with the finishing touches, labor wise and are hoping to be in by December.
We will only be charged the utilities, $200 a month rent and the taxes on the property which we have worked out to be about $250. So between $450-500 a month plus the utilities.
I will be holding on to my vet job as the house is literally 300ft away from the house I live in now.
Me and my girlfriend have ran extensive numbers and we should be all right with money to even save each payday. Her father also is giving us the first 4 months free, minus utilities so that we can save more. So really we have 6 months of available saving time.
My girlfriend already told me I can have the second bedroom as my reptile room so I can get it on its feet.
I love living with her family but at 20 years old...will be 21 in January. It's time for me to be a provider and get us on our feet.
I'm so happy and excited to be able to not have to ask to do things, or disturb people because I leave for work at the crack of dawn.
Thanks for whoever reads this and I hope you can share in my excitement.
Thanks,
Kevin

I probably won't have any more snakes till next year sometime. I need to build racks and get the hang of paying rent and stuff first. But my albino checkered garter "Herbert" can finally come live with me!

Being a young adult myself...let me tell you...nothing feels greater in the world than leaving the nest. I moved out after college and when I got a job a few years back...and even though I am 5 miles or so away from the 'rents, it's great being able to call this bubble around me "mine" even though...at times...it may be kinda messy lol!
Congrats! Take good care of it!

Angela (my girlfriend) and her mom spent today cleaning the disgusting kitchen cabinets and tearing the kitchen wall tile off. We are heading to lowes now with her mom to get new stuff.
I'm so excited being almost 21 it's time to leave the nest. Her dad said he's most excited that I won't be using his bathroom all the time haha.
I'm really exited to be able to have what I want though. Animal wise.

Congrats! I lived with family up until I was 19, and then couch surfed/split a room with 2 other people up until May of last year. It's awesome having your own place! Definitely a big responsibility, but if you're independently oriented it's a lot less stress

I feel more confident with my money managing abilities which was my biggest worry and I could say I feel confident without Mike and Danielle on here's help. Other than that I should be okay.
And we ARE moving out. It's official. We are buying paint as I type this and her mom (new landlord haha) is buying the stuff to finish the kitchen and bathroom, plus the new Sheetrock for the bad spots.

So in total we got paint for most of the house, a new vanity, sink, cupboard for bathroom, her mom got a new stove and we get the old one that still works great, countertops for the bathroom and kitchen, tile for the kitchen walls, new outlets and switches, and for me I got a Japanese picture to frame for the snake room/spare bedroom.
We still need Sheetrock and plywood and some other things but a majority of the purchases were done today.
It was truly a great time walking around shopping with Angela and her mom. I'm eternally great full for her mom letting us live there and helping us along the way.
