    New rats

Hey so my mom bought me a male and a prego female to start off breeding. So I have a couple questions, I've got a tall tub like 22" tall do I need a lid for that to keep the breeding pair in and the new borns. I've got a tank for the male to hang out in when I don't want them making babies. And I need to grow the babies out to adult size can I do that in a 55 gallon breeder tank hoping to have 4-8 rats grow to full size in the grow out tanks. Or what size tub/tank would you recommend and how many adults can fit in each, they'll be same sex adults in each tank. So I'm hoping to use a grow out for females and males cuz I have two 55 gallon tanks. Once I get set and going I plain in having six months of rats in different grow stages so every month ill have four full adults to feed my carpet and four sub adults for my ball. Ill take some pictures of what I manage to get set up and going tonight once I get them home and convert some space to a rat area so any advice I can get would help me tons I'm a novice with this so sorry if I asked some no brainer questions.

Tanks absolutely SUCK for rats...i suggest figuring out how to build a simple rack with home depot tubs.
Ammonia is heavier than air, in large tanks especially the ammonia can't escape, making for sick rats eventually.

K so the dude canceled the prego female but gave me a dumbo ear female and a fuzzy male for same price. (Both breeding age) How big of tubs do I need I'm thinking of getting one more breeding pair and setting up a eight tub rack. How many adults can fit in each tub? I need four adults a month.

We like to do 1 male and 3 or 4 females per tub.

Home depot small sized concrete tubs, they aren't that small, just in reference to the fact they have larger tubs too that are a bit too deep imo for breeding in.

By "fuzzy" you are meaning a rex coat I take it?

Not sure haven't seen either of them yet their an hr north of me ill post pics tonight. So those tubs will be the right size for me to grow out four in each? I'm gonna keep the sexes apart for the grow out ones cuz their just going to be feed off of. Once their the size for my bp to eat I'm gonna freeze of the extras. So if I got eight babies I'd freeze off four and let four reach adulthood. I hope that makes sense

I know those two are so cute, and as of ten mins ago because of a refusal to eat by my carpet python I have lucky the petco rat haha he's temporary unless she refuses him two more times. I feel bad cuz I hurt his tail getting him outta snakes tub.
