Need Help Increasing Humidity in a 75 Gallon Tank
I am thinking about getting a BRB in a few weeks, so I am doing test runs to make sure I can provide all of its requirements before I get it. The problem lies in the fact that I have a 75 gallon tank that needs to have a humidity level 75+ (although I would probably shoot for at least 80). Right now the humidity level is 70-72. That does not seem to be enough. Right now I have a mixture of eco earth and spanish moss that I have moisten. I also have a large water bowl (13 by 8 inches) filled 3/4. I covered the mesh lid with a towel and have misted the walls of the tank. I am obviously doing something wrong and/or left something out, so I am wondering what advice you guys/girls could give me? (I should note that a humid hide or two will be put in the tank as well).
The last question I have is a rather odd one that I am quite skeptical about asking, but I shall ask anyway. Could I just put an old fashion humidifier in the tank (like this one but an older/different brand http://www.target.com/p/vicks-germ-f...0/-/A-12729437 and of course I would only put water in it)? I have a feeling this is going to be answered no, but I want to make sure.
Thanks for all the help ^^

Glass tanks that big are nearly impossible to maintain humidity in, PVC reptile cages are really a much better choice if high humidity levels are required.

Are you getting a hatchling, or something with a little more size? I ask because a 75 gallon tank is way too big for a hatchling snake.
You can use a humidifier, but you don't want to put it straight in the tank, rather use some PVC pipe to route the mist into the cage.

I was planning on getting an adult (or as close to one as I can). I had a feeling that it would be extremely difficult to keep humidity up in a glass tank (especially a 75 gallon tank). I might try the pvc idea to see if it works out. Otherwise, I will have to wait until I move into a new and bigger place, I don't have any room for a new cage (if I have to wait then I will have to).

I take it it has a screen top? Cover most of the top with plexiglass. That will work wonders on keeping the humidity up.

I'll find a thread in the DIY or it may be a sticky, about turning the tank on its side and fixing a plexiglass lid to open from the side instead of the top.

I would also suggest a pvc enclosure a tank can be made to work but PVC is easier if you have the cash. A friend had BRB in a big tank for a long time she would (when changing substrate during a clean) add about 1 inch of water and then 2-3 inches of coco coir based substrate (damp already) that keeps enough humidity with out killing ventilation. The issue is it need to be cleaned a lot. lots of effort is involved every 2 weeks she did a full cleaning to insure it wasn't growing things.

Thanks for all the advice. I think what I might try is having plexiglass on top with a hole cut out to fit the pvc pipe (hooked to a humidifier), and on the other end of the plexiglass have small holes cut out to allow for ventilation. My tank at the moment is at a steady 70% (which was at 55% before I added things to it). The humidifier (in theory) should raise it at least 10-15% since it is in a contained area. I will try it out and see what happens. Is there a top humidity limit for BRBs?

I just got a brb two Weeks ago. Almost 6ft male with everything they had for it. Some things it came with was a tall front opening glass tank, retifogger and the hygrotherm controller. Now I know that these have not had great reviews but honestly the thing works great. It does have a screen top which I covered most of. Using cypress mulch and adding moss to the hide helps too. When the humidity drops a bit below the fogger is turned on and a nice smoke like fog rolls in. I Have not had to mist and every time I check the humidity is on the money.
You should be able to hook something like the hygrotherm to your humidifier and keep it steady at 70. The only complaint about my setup I have is the fogger water bottle is kinda small so I have to fill it every two days. The adapter will fit any regular bottle so I'm in the process of emptying a two litter bottle to use.
Use purified our distilled water in the humidifier to make then last longer.
What the others are saying about pvc is true. I'm waiting on some now. You can make the glad work but it would be much easier in pvc.

Re: Need Help Increasing Humidity in a 75 Gallon Tank
I thought I would update you guys on the humidity, I rigged up my humidifier with I think what is called a vent tube for a dryer (I went to home depo and they did not have any PVC pipe that was wide enough, and a person there recommended the vent thing [note I forgot it's name but it is a metal, flexible, silver tube that can stretch to 8 ft wide and according to the home depo employee it would be fine to handle redirecting the mist from the humidifier) and got a sheet of plexiglass. Doing that, the humidity has staid at a consistent level. I emailed Dave from Rainbows R Us to inquire about what the max humidity level is and he said for an adult the humidity at level 80% works fine. So I will have to probably decrease my humidity a little (Right now it is at 88%) by adding more ventilation [I will cut more holes into the plexiglass to let more of the humidity escape.] Other than that, everything is working smoothly
