Boa enclosures
Are screen enclosures or other types with ventilated sides ok for boas? Or does the humidity requirement makes these useless?

Useless
Though it depends on how much ventilation, Some is ok, but if the sides are all screen it won't work.

Yeah melamine or PVC cages are the way to go IMO.

Those kinds of cages are nice and all but so damn expensive. I'm brainstorming on possible dyi options. I'm not super crafty but after completing my tub rack for my BPs i'm pretty proud of myself lol

Another thing to consider is that Boas are much stronger than BPs. A screen is only an irritating obstacle for an adult boa if it REALLY wants out. lol. And given the boa personality...they tend to want out more than BPs do too. Yes, PVC and Melamine cages are expensive, but it's the reality of owning a large constrictor.

My 4' cage cost me about $150 in materials to make (my bf made it and it came out very nice, not really heavy either) and the thermostat and flexwatt was about $130 so it was pretty inexpensive overall. There's lots of DIY cage building tutorials on the web, I'd do a search.

There is big difference between not being able to afford something and just choosing to not spend money on something. The whole reason for my question is to help decide what type of enclosure I need to buy or look at making myself.

Thanks for the constructive and non-condescending feedback. This is exactly what i'm looking at doing.
