My latest rescue. female dumerils boa

We renamed her kisses because of the hersey mid shaped pattern near her head. She is the sweetest thing. She had an RI last month when I first looked at her but think we've got that taken care of. She has some rub wounds on her head. Would appreciate any advice. This is my first boa in over a decade and my first ever dumerils.

Her pattern is stunning! Hopefully those spots heal up, but she's beautiful either way.

Neosporin without the pain killer. It'll help heal it. Also make sure she's in a large enough enclosure and has sufficient hides.

How large of an enclosure is recommended. She's in a 55 gal now for qt but was considering a 170 gal display case when shes allowed in the main collection room. I could also use a more detailed care sheet. I've read a few and they all seem kinda basic.
She is a sweetheart can't wait for her to settle in so I can sort really handling her

The 55 should be good, just make sure she has enough hides. They are ambush predators. Too small of an enclosure with insufficient hides probably caused all her rub wounds.

I'm totally into rescuing snakes now. Both of my snakes are rescues. I was talking to my wife about maybe just opening a rescue for snakes but she wants a reptile store. I personally don't have the knowledge for an entire store but a small time snake rescue/rehab/re home would be right up my alley. I commend you on this rescue. Without a second thought you jumped right in to save a snake. Even at first when you didn't think you were going to get it you donated time and supplies to make sure the snake was going to get a better life. That's awesome. I think with a little effort that snake is going to be just fine and live a MUCH happier life with you.

So its been about a week..... She has eaten for me. I'm so glad I tried prekilled. Her hunting skills are pretty weak but she is a great eater. Just make sure I use tongs next time. She didn't get me but it was a close one. Lol. Also her wounds are healing up quicker than I expected. They still look horrible but they are fully closed. I believe she is happy in her new home. I swapped out the newsprint substrate to 4" of lab grade aspen. I didn't see here for two days afterward. Now she just puts her head out waiting for her next snack. Lol. She's not real active in the tank but she is by far the best handling snake I have ever owned. Really wishing they came in as many paint jobs as a ball. Still amazes me how this rescue has changed my opinion of boas. I love her to death and looking forward to getting her a bf in a few years maybe.
