Acurite Problems - Clock auto-displays ramdomly
Picked up an Acurite for a new BP setup about 2 weeks ago.
This one here: http://www.amazon.com/Chaney-Instrum...ywords=acurite
It was working fine until last night, when the top temp. (ie, indoor) randomly switches to the clock display and stays there.
I can open the tub and manually switch it to display the temp again but it invariably switches back eventually.
Anyone run into this issue before? Easy fix? Just return it as defective?
Being that this is a relatively new set-up, I've been spot checking the temps/humidity whenever I walk by the enclosure. Twice now I've done a double take thinking I was cooking my BP when I read "11:14pm" as "111.4 degrees."

I've never had this exact problembut I have had some act up befor. Usually pulling the battery out and putting it back in/replacing with a new one will fix it.

Mine switches like that but only when my snake decides to knock it over and crawl across it (and sometimes poop on it). Lol.

Re: Acurite Problems - Clock auto-displays ramdomly
Thanks for the replies, guys.
A little BUMP for an update...
The original Acu-rite I had continued to die over the next several days after posting. The display continued to change at will and eventually, the numbers began to fade. Changing the battery did nothing. I contacted the Amazon seller, who promptly send me a replacement unit for free. By the time the new unit arrived, the original one was barely readable. I also noticed with the new one next to the old one, both units displayed different temps, and the old unit was jumping around wildly at that point (e.g., going from 89F to 114F to 125F, etc.). I just assumed the original unit was defective, tossed it in the trash, and moved on.
Of course, as of this morning, I find the newer unit is starting to display the same behavior...jumping over to display the clock for no reason.
Did I possibly receive not one, but TWO, defective Acu-rites?!?
And if not, what the hell am I doing wrong here to break them?
The unit sits inside the enclosure on the cool side, attached to the wall with velcro. I don't move it at all. Humidity is generally between 50-80%.
People generally speak very highly of these units, but I'm not having any luck with them at all.

Are you misting of fogging the cage and the device is getting wet?

Nope.
Although, now that you bring it up, the enclosure was fogged up this morning when I woke up, and this morning is the first time I've seen it act up.
Hobbes (my BP) defecated and peed during the night, and the paper towels were pretty wet when I came into his room. I cleaned out the enclosure this morning, and everything is back to normal. Misting hasn't been necessary, as the humidity in CT is high enough on its own.
It IS possible that it could have something to do with the thermometer getting wet/high humidity. What else can I do to prevent this though?
At the very least, Hobbes seems to get his enclosure wet right before a shed by dragging himself through this water bowl (he's done this his past two sheds...which is how long I've had him).

I'm not sure. I have never had to address this problem. I have an Accurite in with my blood python and have not had any issues.
It was just my first thought that it sounds like a wet electronics problem. I will think about it and see if a idea comes to me.
