Question regarding twisted umbilical cord
So I have a baby which appears to be a lesser fire in the egg and the cord is wrapped around his body. Question is, do I wait for him to stick his head out and start breathing on his own then attempt to move him to another container with water and get him untwisted or do it now. I think I already know the answer but I thought I would double check. I believe removing him before he is breathing on his own will kill him. On an unrelated note I have been hearing of multiple stories this year of deformed babies being hatched. This is my 5th clutch to hatch this year and in the same clutch as the twisted cord there also appears to be 3 that are kinked (not comfirmed yet but they have that look about them), 3 clutches hatched just fine with no deformities or any problems, I have had no temp spikes or rollovers and this is the second clutch that appears to have deformities, the only variable that is the same is that they are fire clutches. Anybody else having any issues with fires? Thanks, Aaron

Do a search one the twisted umbilical. There was a real gold thread about that recently. It might have even been made sticky.

Nice, I didn't even catch the two auto correct typos, oops! Sorry, I hate that.

Re: Question regarding twisted umbilical cord
If you are 100% sure that the umbilicus is twisted it is VERY important to act now, the more you wait the weaker the animal will become and it will eventually die.
If you can untangle him without cutting the sac off try that first and than place him in a deli cup on damp paper towel and back in the incubator, if within the nex 24 to 48 hours he does not seem to absorb is yolk anyway simply cut the yolk sac of.
You'll find everything you need in the link that was provided

Re: Question regarding twisted umbilical cord
Its wrapped completely around his body just like yours was (I believe it was your post). Its day 58 and he hasnt poked his head out yet (all the rest have), he is stilll moving and alive though. Should I still remove him if he is is not breathing air yet or will this kill him? Also should I try to remove him, his yolk, and as many viens as I can or just him and the yolk. I feel like if I go pulling him out I'm gonna break a bunch of Viens? should it be a small deli cup with a moist paper towel or a small deli cup with a tiny bit of distilled water in the bottom? Thanks for the help I appreciate it, Aaron

At 58 days he is viable however depending how how bad it is tangled he is probably getting weaker by the hour.
Personally I would pull him out and try to untangle him without cutting if this is possible and if not I would follow the instruction on the thread that is linked above (and yes it's one of my snake's story)
I prefer to put them on damp paper towel but you can place him in a deli cup with some distilled water as well of course that is if the yolk sac remains attached, if it doesn't moist paper towel until he shed is all that is required.
Keep in mind that it's always a gamble and that not all hatchlings with this issue make it, try your best and good luck.

Good to hear your clutch hatched out successfully.

Thankyou, I was getting a little worried for a while. Such a relief to actually see him out of the egg
