eastern green smooth snake?
One of my friends, aftering seeing my ball python Radi, decided to get a snake for herself. She purchase a 20 gal, ecoearth, a water bowl, and a heating pad along with a climbing tree (a mini version of my cage) but decided she didn't want to spend $80+ on a snake, so she caught a snake from her yard. After glancing over it, I concluded it was an eastern green smooth snake.
I'm rather worried about the little snake's health. Are they even legal to own as pets? I have never heard of anyone owning one...
So, on behalf of Shamrock, I am asking if eastern green smooth snakes do well in captivity and, if so, can anyone direct me to a book or site for the little guys' care so I can make sure he is being kept in a pristine environment?
Thanks!

no, but im certain its an smooth green. in fact, shes bringing it to our wildlife center today (we also have an "odd pet vet" there who is registered in snakes) to make sure it's fit as a fiddle. so we'll know for certain in a few hours(:

I hate to say this but I feel like you make it sounds as if she went out and did this on a whim. If that is the case I fear for this little guy, as she will likely lose interest after a short while and stop taking care of it. I hope that if she does she will let it go but who knows.
As for your question, I've never heard of that type of snake before, and I would have to assume that they haven't been kept in captivity much, as aside from corns, milks, kings, rats, rosy boas and a few hots not many snakes native to North America are. I hope that she finds out what it's husbandry requirements are and takes awesome care of it, and good luck at the nature center/vet.

Green Snakes make terrible captives. The diets are harder to maintain and even store bought ones will be hard to keep alive. Have your friend spend $30 on a corn snake.
