I got my BP to take a F/T! Now what to do with the live mouse?
So... Try #3, we finally got Herman, our fairly young BP to take F/T. The F/T he was significantly smaller than his normal meal. Should I also feed him the live mouse I purchased? If so, I should probably kill it first so as not to jeopardize him taking F/T going forward, correct?
I don't want to overfeed him, but if he can take the second mouse, I'd obviously prefer to give it to him.

How big is your snake? You could always keep the mouse till his next meal? And yes, I would p/k mouse.

Re: I got my BP to take a F/T! Now what to do with the live mouse?
My snake was born in June, so not very big. I haven't weighed him yet b/c he's been eating very regularly and so I haven't worried about it. I probably should be more responsible about his measurements, but I've just been eyeballing his prey size and things have gone well.
He's typically eating every 5-6 days, so I could keep the mouse and feed him again in 3(?) days? I don't have any mouse food, however, so I'm not sure how long mice can go without food. And I don't want the little guy to suffer needlessly either.
ETA: I could always return him to the pet store. I don't need my money back or anything, I just wasn't sure if there was an easy way to somehow use him for Herman's next feeding.

You could always turn that mouse into food for a later date by pk and freezing. If he will take ft now cull and freeze the live mouse. You can then use it whenever necessary.

Thats what I did when I was converting a bp over to f/t. I had bought a live mouse and he went over to f/t without any issue so I killed the mouse and froze him for a later date and the bp ate him with no problems.

i would feed the mouse what ever you have in your pantry, cereal, crackers, rice and a lot of fresh water.
I have never dealt with F/T mice, fresh is all I have ever fed my BP..
But I guess you could freeze the mouse and then thaw it just like the others.

I would just "take care of it". Then put it in the freezer! Problem solved.
