    Did my Reptile Good Deed...

Well, this morning I stopped at Hardee's fast food for a biscuit and the guy ahead of me in the drive-thru line was gesturing and talking to the window cashier. When I got up there, she was so jumpy and kept slamming the window shut and jumping away from the window. She finally told me that the guy had seen a king snake alongside the building beside the drive-thru and so she was freaking out.

Now, it's RIDICULOUS that she was (I guess) worried the snake would "get her" through the dang window! I understand folks fear snakes, but really? He told her it was about 18 inches(he held up his hands about that far apart), and it's not likely the thing is going to manage to climb UP the wall, over a overhanging ledge, and into the window!

BUT... people have a unreasoning fear. So I tutted at her and informed her that she WANTED king snakes around and how they ATE other snakes and so if it was around, then rattlesnakes and moccasins and bad snakes would smell it and stay far away from the building, so it was a "good snake" to have around.

Her attitude did a 180 swap and she was all smiles. "Oh that's GOOD!" and she was all happy at the idea that the (previously horrible dangerous creepy monster) king snake was near the building.

I consider this to be my good deed for reptile kind. If nothing else, I changed one single person's attitude from "ALL SNAKES ARE HORRIBLE" to "Some snakes are great to have around!". Sure, I could have evilly commented about snakes climbing abilities.. or asked how she would get to her car with it "lurking" around... but it's way way better to alleviate her fears in a way that makes her see snakes in a new light.

I don't do that many good deeds, so I feel I should get double points for this one.

I love doing reptile good deeds! I always jump at the chance to educate people that snakes are not all fangs and aggression. Sure, there are some you should steer clear of (being venomous and all) but there are some that just want to live in your garden and eat the pests.

    for your deed!
