    How can I get my spider to breed?

    So here's the deal, my male spider is 900g+ right now, well past minimum breeding size. His wobble isn't too terrible, and is only really noticeable when he's trying to strike at prey. I've been pairing him on and off with my female since the beginning of June with absolutely no observed locks. In fact, my male was almost always hiding under the substrate, or under my female. It's like he wasn't even trying. She, however, was tail-wagging and zipping around all over her tub, but to obviously no avail.

    When I started pairing my male normal to her, they locked up almost immediately, and lasted for a little over 48 hours. Talk about staying power, eh? Anyway, I've witnessed many locks between the normals, but none with the spider, which, to be honest, kind of upsets me! Hahah, I'd like some spiders for my first clutch.

    I've read that popping another male and rubbing his sperm/plugs on the female will usually get the desired male to mate, but I'm not the best at popping. Probing I can do, no problem there, but I've never been good at popping, so I just don't do it. Is there anything else I can do to urge my spider to breed? Am I just not playing the right music?? (If that's the case, the male normal likes a very wide range! )

    I have heard that placing an old shed skin of the other male in with the female while the spider is in there can help your guy get going. I also saw a vid where they placed both males in with the female to try to get the other male going. That was an episode of Snakebytes.

    You can put the spider in with the good breeder normal male. You have to watch them cause they could start a wrestling match bit that has sparked a few breeders to get in hear here. The shed thing works sometimes as well. Also, if you get any rain storms coming in open the house up and that can spark interest as well. Good luck!

    Some males just won't breed certain females.
    That's all there really is to it.

    The female might not enjoy it too much, but I have noticed that my breeders act a little faster if I put them in right after I take out another male that has locked with the female. That might get your spider moving. You could also put the female, normal male that will breed and the spider in together. That didn't really work for me, but it doesn't hurt to try. Pairing during storms and using sperm plugs from other males really got my males into action this past season.

    I wouldn't put two males in with a female after seeing how males fight with each other.
    A wet shed from another breeding male or placing another males sperm on her "can work", but patience is what it's all about.
    Just because the spider doesn't lock up this week or next week doesn't mean it won't happen, you just have to keep trying making sure the male gets plenty of rest throughout the season.

    Also, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Some males are just faster than others. { No offense guys }

    Some guys just don't like some girls. My husband wanted a mojave spider this season. But every time we put his spider male in with my mojave, he went crazy trying to escape. We had to get him out before he hurt himself. He'd lock with my husband's normal any day of the week, but he HATED my mojave girl.

    I also discovered this past season, if you try for a lock and get nothing from the male, pull him and wait a week then try again. Sometimes that week of abstinence seemed to help. I do know the weather thing does work. Also when the FEMALE sheds, if you put a male in right after she sheds and before you clean he'll lock right quick I had that happen a few times.

    Best of luck.
