    Reptile Expos

I am going to the NARBC in Arlington next weekend and I was curious about prices. I'm looking for a female spider (I want to make bumblebees and killer bees) as I will be getting my 1.1 pastels when the temps cool off and they can be shipped. How much should I expect to spend on a female spider? I know they normally sell around $200-$250 from a breeder over the internet, but are they any less expensive by purchasing it at the expo? Is the only real savings on the cost of shipping? Also, being that this is my very first expo to attend, can you generally haggle a bit to lower the price? Just trying to know what I'm getting into before I actually get there.

It depends on the size of the female you are looking for, hatchlings around $175-$250 I have seen them priced. You would save on shipping and probably be able to move the price down a little. Just keep in mind that many people take a lot of time and effort breeding their reptiles and some do it for a living so just offer a respectful price. Have a fun time!

This I know too well! I am one of those people who if I see a good animal at a reasonable price, I will pay it. I'd rather pay a bit more for a quality animal than try an weasle someone out of money. I will be one of those breeders in a couple of years, so I want to treat others how I would want to be treated! I'm going into this expo with an open mind and I hope to come home with a female spider (much to my mother's horror...she does not understand my addiction to ball pythons).

I feel a rule of thumb would be if it's priced OBRO then you've got wiggle room. If you don't see it, then they're set firm on the marked price. Just something to look out for, and it's not always the case.

    Re: Reptile Expos

I picked up a Female pastel marked for $175 for $125 since I had cash. Most (if not all) breeders at expos will take charge cards...but if you can whip out cash they are often willing to meet you on a lower price level.

The color of green (while not found in ball python genetics) is definitely found in the desires of the breeders. Haha
    My Critters:
    Balls:
    0.1 Pastel "Bellatrix"
    1.0 Pewter "Brian"
    0.1 Bumblebee "Betty"
    1.0 Ghost Mojave "Javier"
    0.1 Mojave het Ghost "Rogue"

    Mammals:
    1/2.0 Cat "Magellan"

    Other Reptiles:
    1.0 100% het albino Hognose
0.1 Fire Tiger Bearded Dragon "Cake"
    0.0.1 Sulcata "Boss/Bossie"

If you're not insulting or too persistent with an offer, the seller is a straight up jerk if they have a bad reaction to an offer less than the marked price. If people just want to breed snakes and don't know how to sell something properly, they should get someone else to sell their product for them.

Very nice spider! That's precisely what I want!

I think I'm more interested in haggling up and not down in price to see if they will throw in a normal female if they have any. I can always use normal females! But like I said, I'm going into this with an open mind and CASH ONLY! If I go in with a credit card...I'll come out with more than just a spider and possibly a normal.
