Proper caging size for new JCP
Going to be picking up a JCP (likely a ~hatchling) Sept 15th at the Canadian Breeders expo in Toronto.
As far as caging goes I was going to put him in the smaller divided half of my 2x4x1 PVC. The remaining space after I installed a acrylic divider is 18"wide x 24" deep x 12" tall. I'll be running an RHP in the front and have the cool side at the back.
Is this too big for a little guy to start in? I'll be dressing it up with a PVC jungle gym similar to Aaron's (the serpent merchant on here)
Any other tips would be great. I'll likely build a bigger enclosure out of melamine and PVC once he is nearly outgrowing his current setup.
I'm itching to get another snake, and I've only had Newman for 8 months!
Thanks
Andrew

The size Is fine for a hatching to start with, should last a few months but he would need to be upgraded when he is bigger (which won't take too long).
Carpets are a lot more active then bps so they need more room to move. Having only the foot height is ok if that is all you can manage but when he is bigger you should try to get him more height. Jungles will still climb some when adults so they will utilize the height. Mine spends a lot of time on his perch.
Coastal carpets on the other hand climb a lot less or sometimes not at all when adults.
A carpet is a great choice. You'll enjoy it. Going from a bp to a carpet is kinda like going from a rock to a snake.
Some carpets can be nippy as hatchlings. If they are just keep handling him and they tend to calm down over time. A bite from them when small doesn't hurt at all.

He/she will be fine in the 4x2 for a permanent enclosure. No need to build something bigger. The height is fine as well, just supplying a hide with space to perch on top of is perfect.
