    Is There Any Way?

I'm going to a reptile expo in Columbus this Saturday, and I was planning on getting a Brazilian Rainbow Boa if they have any there. I have a 75 gal. aquarium, but I know that a full-screen lid would be bad because of humidity issues. I was just wondering if covering up part of the cage top with something (like a blanket or glass) would be good enough to make aquarium housing work, or if I should just get a rack or other recommended caging options for it?

And don't worry, if I can't make it work and can't get the other recommended caging options for it at the expo then I simply won't get a BRB.

There is a thread somewhere on here about this. You can cover a majority of the screen top with 2-3 layers of aluminum foil (shiny side down). Secure the aluminum foil to the top with aluminum tape (be sure that none of the tape is exposed. This makes sure the snake cannot come in contact with the tape). I did this on my tank and the heat and humidity are perfect.

You can try a few things:

    1) Covering 80-90% of the screen top with tin foil or plexiglass (as the member above stated)
    2) Large water dish over the hot side of the tank (The more surface area, the higher the humidity will be)
    3) Laying a damp towel over the screen top.
    4) Maybe invest in a fogger.

Thanks, I think I'll try some of those, especially the aluminum foil thing!

I've got a 75 gal aquarium that I made plexiglass doors for. I drilled a few air holes, added some hinges, key locks, and handles, and it worked just fine...

The above, are you saying your covers are keeping a tank in the proper range for a BRB or a BP?

I know the BRB needs pretty high humidity and thats what has kept me from getting one so far. I have a 40 gallon tank with most of its top covered with a cardboard foil covered insert and it doesnt stay high enough for a BRB.

Shiny side down? Both sides of my foil is shiny.

I'd get a piece of plexiglass the size of the top and port holes in it for ventilation.

Alternative to plexi glass is the plastic covers they sell for flourescent light panels. Much cheaper and easier to work with. Not clear though, its translucent.

Well, I went to the reptile show in Columbus earlier this month looking for an adult BRB, but there weren't any. However, I did buy a baby girl (named her "Dorothy") and she was too small for my 75 gal, so I bought a rack for her.

Anyway, she's in cypress mulch with humidity kept in the low 80's, and she has a plastic box inside on the warm side with a hole cut out so Dorothy can have higher humidity if she wanted (around 90%), and inside the box is sphagnum moss. She already ate a f/t fuzzy mouse just two days after she came home, so I think she's doing pretty well so far.
