Please help.
I HAVE AN ADDICTION ... ... ... to ball pythons.
Here's the quick story. My boyfriend got into ball pythons last year. I didn't approve at first. But next thing you know, I bought a BP and can't stop thinking about them.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's definitely a great hobby. Caring for an animal, learning about the genetics, husbandry, etc. This community is not only friendly, but encouraging and nurturing as well. It's great!
But I really need help. I SERIOUSLY can't stop thinking about them. Recently, I graduated from college and started a full time job. I am currently in training. However, training has been "death by PowerPoint". With that said, I find myself browsing ball-pythons.net and worldofballpythons.com all the time!
Can any of you offer some insight? Maybe some suggestions on how to manage this... fascination? Whenever my boyfriend and I talk, it's all about what we saw on these forums or SnakeBytes on YouTube. Is this normal?! ARE BPS TAKING OVER MY LIFE!?
P.S. Thanks for reading! LOL

Everybody here has the same thing. Snakes are awesome, how could you help it? Just so you know, yes, we are all enablers here, we will NEVER tell you noooo don't get another. No, we will encourage you, and tell you about racks with tubs, that allow much more space for more snakes.......
And, that's why this forum is so active, we are all crazy for our bps! (And boa's, etc...etc...). Herpaholics. So we are always on here. If you want a laugh, check out the thread "you might be a ball python keeper". It's great. I would link it, but am slightly challenged in figuring out how to do this from my phone.

We are all there! If my husband can't fall asleep I start talking to him about genetics and my breeding plans for this year and next year and what I hope to hatch out this month and my wish list. It works wonders on knocking him out. Unfortunately when I really want to talk with him about my snakes it does the same thing....anyway we are all addicted, you'll get used to it!

Re: Please help.
I've been a freak about reptiles my whole life. I have no idea why but there's something about them. I used to have a corn snake, leo, BP, water dragon and anoles through high school which were all awesome. Unfortunately I had to give them up when I went to college because I couldn't have them in the dorms which was terrible and I strongly advise choosing your reptiles over going to college any day. I personally didn't even last a year in college and when I got booted I started building a massive iguana enclosure. I was going to get a fancy iguana until I stumbled into a pet store for dog food and seen an iguana on the bottom shelf that wasn't looking so hot. I asked what was up with him and they told me he's probably going to die soon and that I could take him for free if I wanted to. I reached my hand in his enclosure and he lashed me and bit me and ran around the cage like a nut. I finally grabbed him and he was pissed it was love at first sight! Driving home the song "Swinging from the Gallo's Pole" came on the radio and I decided to name him Gallo because they thought he was going to die. Luckily with the proper enclosure 6 by 6 by 3 plexiglass and with all the goodies and some beautiful driftwood he thrived. I always tried to tame him but never could and I loved him for that. I always said he had a sense of himself and was too prideful to trust anyone which I understood. Unfortunately I got screwed out of my living situation (pro tip: always sign a lease) and became homeless because I couldn't even find a place that would allow my dog so I had to turn him over to a reptile rescue. Shortly after that I became a Dad and reptiles went on the back burner for a while. Then my better half said one day "Why don't you get a snake?" because she's always known I've always loved BP's and wanted to breed them so I did, just very recently too. Already built a rack, got them settled and my mind has been spinning with ideas and possibilities. I always try talking to friends and people I work with about BP's and they really don't care, but I'm such a freak that even knowing that they don't care I will still tell them anyways! This website is awesome and the community seems to have grown quite a bit since I was in high school and the morphs are amazing. Reptile people are freaks lets face it!
