Collection building for hobby and eventual sales.

    Hello,

I am interested in adding a few more snakes this year to my Gene pool. I was looking for some advice or direction to take my collection for future breeding projects.

Here is what I have right now. These are all 2012 pythons all acquired from very reputable breeders.

    1.0 Spider Mojave
    0.1 Super Mojave
    0.1 Special
    0.1 Pastel.

I was planning to add 2-3 more females this year and maybe 2 more males next year.

So far I can make some great combos i.e crystals, bumble bee mojave, super mojaves etc.

I was considering adding an Enchi female, Fire Female, maybe Orange Dream or Clowns.

I would appreciate some advice in building a new collection or particular directions to take. My main interest is not financial because my main job is very good.. Although, I would like to be able to sell some snakes in the future.

    Regards

fire would be a nice addition and so would clowns. You could also look at lessers and pinstripes to add some variety. The key is to slowly increase your gene pool every year with good quality morphs. Pick very nice ones to hold back and continue to build. Good luck!

I really do love clowns. Probably my favorite recessive trait in ball pythons.

Everyone can tell you what they like but at the end of the day it should be about what you like and what possibles combos you can make that you like. None of those are bad choices, it really just comes down to what you like. Enchi's are hot, they're combos are hot but they're also coming down in price. Where as Orange Dream isn't seen too much. Clowns are cool, not a very commonly seen morph either, which is why they are still fairly expensive. But they're recessive so they may take twice as long to see good results. It's really up to you.

IMHO every collection should have, even if it's in a combo, Pastel, Enchi, Yellowbelly and some sort of BEL gene (Lesser, Butter, Mojo, or one of my favorite, Mocha).

If I were in your shoes, I would get a male Clown and breed that to the female Special and Super Mojo - aiming for the big prize of Crystal Clowns down the road.

You could also add a female Mystic to pair with your male Mojo Spider - aiming for Spider Potions.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My first female should be ready to breed in 2014. Basically, I could add a female mystic, and female enchi.

Then next year buy 2 real powerhouse males. Like a pastel clown, and an orange dream/enchi Just an idea. I like to plan far ahead.

Here is my line-up in females I just added all 2012.

    0.1 Super Mojave
    0.1 Special
    0.1 Pastel
    0.1 FireFly (Fire Pastel)
    0.1 Enchi.

Next Year. What would be the best males for this collection on females. I was thinking a Special Yellowbelly and maybe a Orange dream Yellowbelly.

Any other suggestions are much appreciated.
