Not using hide
So my bp has started to do something wiered lately, he will hide under.his hot side hide, but yesterday i found him sitting on top of his cool side hide. I thought it was just because he was hungry yesterday was feeding day and the night befote he had been real actibe hunting for food i guess.
after he ate he wemt to his hot side all night and now im waking up at 2:41pm and jes sitting on top of his cool side hide. Is this normal at all?
he used to hide unfer it idk why he has stopped or if i just have a wiered one that wants to lay in the open sometime. His cool side is 81-83 hot side 87-89 and they are equal sized hides.
well the cool side is s ectra large and the hot side is a large but sometimes after feeding he doesnt fit under it.
I dont think hes hungry he had a medium rat yestetday.
Sorry abouy the ramble it just seems odd to me necause he always used to hide under it.

How are you measuring your temps? Ambient should be 78-82 and the hot side should be 88-92 to provide a proper temperature gradient but your temps seem to be close enough. I would make the hides identical and see if that solves the problem. If your husbandry's okay and the hides are the same, then he's probably just being a ball python They do weird things sometimes.

While his cool side temps are a bit warmer than I like, his hot side temps are spot on imo.
OP they do what they do to thermo-regulate, being cold blooded the only way to alter their body temp is to move.
They will move back and forth, up and down, to find the temperature that they like the best at that moment, so what you're describing is perfectly normal.
I have a few snakes with hides, most do not have them, but the ones that do have them do not always sit in them.
Sometimes under, sometimes over, sometimes on the cool side, it's just what they do

I use a digital thermometer toeasure my temps. Thise are the temps under hides the ambient is anoy 84 through the whole tank. I have adjusted the temps to how he seems to like them.
hes not roaming or actomg stressed, hes just layin ob top of the rock instead of under.

You are using a heat lamp with eco-earth substrate? Are the probes under the substrate for the temp? If so they are not going to be accurate and may be much hotter or cooler. The best tool to find the surface temp when using lamps is a IR temp gun. I Would invest in one and check you numbers.

Im just confused how the probe being plaved unfer the hife would give an inaccurate reading?
he has no problem with his hot side, thats where he usually is. The light is for the ambient temps my room is very cold lower 70s. And hes only started this yesterday. He always used his cool side hide before and nothings changed in the last 3 weeks. Temps have been consistant, nothing new added.
He just seems to like putting his head in that crack.

He is probably putting its head in the crack because its the lowest spot and it thinks it is hiding.
With the probe buried under the substrate it is insulated and will not give the correct surface temp. The surface of the substrate should be much warmer than the bottom of the substrate where your probe is when using a heat lamp. Try placing your probe on top of the substrate under the hide and see what it tells you. This will give you a better idea but a temp gun is the easiest most accurate way to find your surface temp.
The same goes for a uth. If your probe is on the glass under the substrate the surface temp will be cooler because the substrate is insulating and keeping the heat from reaching the surface. So your temp could read 90 under the substrate over a uth but the surface temp will actually be lower. The thicker the substrate the lower the surface temp.
Overall your snake knows best. But it hanging out on top of the hide exposed is telling me your temps are off. Check them to be sure that you just have a strange snake and not improper temps.

My probes aree on the surface of the substrate. Its positioned right where he would lay. Guess thats why i was confused.

What he wants to do is sit in the dark in a little coil, not watch the house.
Something is off.
I see you made your account 6/20/12. How long have you had your BP? What situation did it come from? Is it eating, shedding, and pooping right?
