As long as it is controlled by a thermostat, yes, it theoretically should work. However, it seems like a lot of extra work to secure all that cable than to just get an Ultratherm pad from Reptile Basics and tape it to the bottom of the tub/cage.

You were asking about ZooMed Heat cable. Per the Reptile Basics website for Ultratherms:

"These pads can often be used WITHOUT a thermostat due to their low wattage density. The element is similar to the Flexwatt heat tape but it is a far more durable, longer lasting material and is sealed in a polyurethane.

The low wattage density of this product means in most cases it will maintain "reptile friendly" temps below 95 degrees. This can vary with the room temps so if precise control of temperature is needed these pads can also be used with a thermostat/rheostat."

I, personally, do not want to trust my snakes' safety to an unregulated UTH. A thermostat is an inexpensive safety net, compared to the cost of and stress of healing a burned belly.

As far as the heat cable, I touched a glass-bottom tank once that had that stuff taped to the bottom, without a thermostat...felt like I was laying my hand on the hood of a car in the July sun (and I live in Georgia)!
