Just grabbed a wine cooler off craigslist and had some extra parts lying around, might as well make another incubator Sorry for the flash glare.

    Re: Wine cooler incubator

Nice one. That is what I built too. We are on day 27 incubating. I just missed a 110 bottle wood cabinet wine cooler for free on CL. I called and the lady said they just picked it up. It was 6' H X 2' W X 2' D. Could have done quite a few clutches in that.

The water bottles in the bottom act as a heat sink. When you open the incubator the incubator dumps the air inside. The water bottles take a long time to loose their temp so it will help the incubator recover stable temps more quickly.

The racks were designed to hold bottles so only there are only three rails on each rack and they are in waves. I bought a sheet of light diffuser at Lowes, cut it to fit the rack, and zip tied it down. Just make sure you don't pull too tight on the zip ties as it can crack the light diffuser. Here is a picture of mine. This was during testing. Now both bottom shelves are filled with water bottles.

Thanks for all the compliments, the straight wire racks were actually the ones that came with the unit. Some of the other wine coolers have wavy style shelves. The water bottles help to maintain the heat I can fit about five show box size Sterilite tubs in this one.

That would have been a nice pick up! I missed a few myself by a few minutes before too haha.

What did you do for the wiring of the heat tape and t-stat probe? Did you drill holes into the body of the cooler?
