All I need now is my BP!

Here is my enclosure, readily awaiting the arrival of our first BP. :-)

The cool side (far right) is only 76.7 degrees. Any thoughts on how I can get it to 80? Basking is 90.1 and humidity is 59%. 150wtt heat lamp and flexwatt (w/ Hepstat) heatmat.

76º isn't that bad. The sake has alot of room to move around under the red light... but..

Are you using a different white heat lamp on the left?

I'd say maybe scoot it over to left? Higher wattage? Or if you buy a long heat lamp that may help..

Your temps sound fine. I might invest in identical hides for the hot and cold side though.

Also, is the red lamp in the enclosure? does the snake have any way to reach the light? Makes me a little nervous.

Right now it's just a basic florescent bulb on the left of the cage (right-facing). I was thinking of trying to find some sort of 'strip/linear' mild heat source for the cold end. Yes.. basically a "long heat lamp". Have you ever seen one?

This AM it was down to 72.5. This afternoon it's back up to 76.3. What's the lowest the temps should be at night without risking sickness for a BP?

It's an indented section with a wire mesh... so the closest the snake can get is the wire mesh. He wouldn't be able to touch the actual light.
And thanks! Perhaps I'll order another on of the black hides from RB. They look awfully cozy. :-)

Even if the temps drop to 72.5 on the far side at night... is that still OK?

You could try a Radiant Heat Panel from Reptile basics. I use them in my enclosures and they hold heat great at 80F. One world of caution you will need something to regulate the RHP. I have a 4X2 enclosure and use a 40w RHP on a T-stat works great

That seems like it would be the easiest... but is there a risk of burning my snake (like with flexwatt) if the t-stat fails? Id' be OK getting an inexpensive therm... but I'm not buying another Herpstat! LOL
