GE Digital Thermometer/Hydrometer

Well went to Target and they had these GE Digital thermometer and hydrometer combo for like 10 bux it comes with a wired probe that you can put elsewhere. Does anyone have these how accurate are they because i have the unit with the hydrometer out of the enclosure and it reads a constant 31-33% humidity. Am i supposed to put it inside the enclosure? These are so weird any help would be greatly appreciated.

These work just fine, but I think you have to have the probes inside the tank for them to do what they're supposed to.

The units have a setting for in and out i suppose that out is for the probe but does the probe detect humidity. I have an old dial type hydrometer and it reads 60% when the digital reads like 36% so i dont know what to beleave.

The unit is the only humidity reader the probe only does the temp so your readings are the humidity inside the room not the cage, you would have to put the unit in the cage.

I have one, well two and I leave the units outside the tank and put the probes in the tank at floor level. I have one on the hot side and one on the cool side then I have three dial type humidity gauges stuck the walls of the cage about 1-2" from the floor of the tank on each side and then one on the back wall up toward the middle hgt of the cage to get a overall reading. Mine seem to work great just have extra aaa batteries! I have both base units on one side of the dresser the tank is on and when I walk in the room I can glance and get a temp read for both sides, it's great.

I just ordered a temp gun yesterday to double check everything.

I have one like that. All I did was attach it to the inside of the tank, and the probe to the other side. The hygrometer will only work right if the whole unit is in the tank, so it will read the tank humidity.

We have three like that and they're great for monitoring both sides of the enclosure at once, but you do have to put it in. A note of caution, tho: someone (I forgot who, sorry) had her bp get caught in the little thing that attaches to the back if you want to make it stand up, so I've just thrown those away.

Ok another question. I put the whole unit in the tank and stuck it to the back with some 3M double sided tape. I also have the dial type hydrometer which reads around 55-60% and the digital reads around 30%. Do you have this same problem?

Yes, the analog devices are notoriously unreliable. Go by what the digital says.
