Re: Wiring a dimmer switch into a UTH.

Just a quick question folks. Has anyone ever wired a dimmer switch into a UTH before. I have done alot of searching on my own with no luck on finding any threads or videos of this being done or how to do it. I understand the concept of doing it and know how to splice it into the cord. But has it been done. I understand also that a dimmer is not the best device to use to regulate current for heating of a UTH. But in a pinch like right now. I really am stuck. Short story is I need to set up a rescue tank for someone who is in dire need to get rid of her snake. This will be for a short period of time and I wanted to help her ASAP. But my racks are completely full and My only option is to set up a tank or tub so I can take in this snake for her. So with this said any help would be appriciated. Thanks again.

Not sure why you would want to wire a UTH to a dimmer switch when you can simply buy this http://www.lowes.com/pd_316275-539-T...sales_dollar|1

Insert the blades of the UTH plug into the slots on the receptacle side of the dimmer. Next, insert the blades from the dimmer plug gently but firmly into the outlet nearest your enclosure. Check to ensure both blades are seated all the way into the outlet. Sliding the switch toward the little light on the box turns the temp down, away from the light turns it up.

Seriously, put the wire nuts down and step away from the soldering iron.
