    Time to make myself known...

Hello all you like-minded herp-lovers out there! I have lurked this forum for months, ever since I decided to dive into this little "hobby." My name is Solomon, and I turned 30 last year, so around New Year's, I decided I needed a new hobby/pet to keep me more level-headed (my 20's were a bit, um, "extreme"). Tons of research later, I determined that a BP would be the perfect companion, being that my landlord won't allow dogs & cats without a fee. Little did I know that I would fall head-over-heels for these amazing animals. In late January, I was lucky enough to "rescue" a very healthy, unsexed normal from a soldier on craigslist who was headed overseas. By lucky, I mean I wouldn't do it again, knowing what I know now. Everyone here has been so helpful and informative to the lurkers like me, and before long I had the perfect setup for my little dude, affectionately named Harlan. Of course the setup has evolved a bit, and now that I'm firmly entrenched in this hobby and plan on more snakes, I've just purchased a permanent home for my buddy. An Animal Plastics T-8 is being shipped to me sometime next week! I couldn't be more excited to provide Harlan with a spacious forever-home with all of its needs met. Glass tanks just don't cut it, from what I've now learned. Too many variables in temps & humidity for my liking. I will post plenty of pictures in the days ahead, and I plan on being a more regular contributor to this great forum. Until then, I just figured it was certainly time to say HELLO! Thanks for your collective intelligence, it is truly invaluable.

Sweet stuff. I'm a semi-serious lurker. I have to make a point to post in threads (have to be known when I start breeding). I got into snakes when I was coming home from a deployment a couple of years ago.

Oh, don't forget to post some pictures of Harlan.

Welcome and good job on the caging. I agree with your views on glass tanks for cages. While most people (myself included) started out using aquariums for their snakes, they're really not the best choice. Aquariums were designed for fish, not reptiles. Looks like you've got yours set up quite nicely and that's a healthy looking snake.
