Happy That My Girl Is A Good Feeder

I got my normal girl on May 30th, and she was 80 grams. I weighed her June 30th, and she was at 91 grams. So I am happy with that.

But today was a sort of mess. I feed her on Tuesdays at around 7pm. My mom is a cardiac-ICU nurse who works night shift and really doesn't want to be there when I thaw or do anything with the mouse. But she had today off. I was able to start thawing without her noticing, and she left to go to the store at the end of the process. She takes awhile at the store so I had time to feed my girl without her being there.

So at this point I am happy that it worked out like this.

Due to her hide making it impossible to see her head shape (it's too dark to even see the form), I couldn't tell which side of the hide she'd come out of. So I moved the hide to the side and placed her head (and most of her body due to her curled up position) outside of the hide so I could feed her.

So I dangle the mouse and as she's striking I move the mouse just outside her reach causing her to just strike the air. I have no idea why I did this. I feel like muscle memory from something else kicked in. So I move the mouse back and she cowers her head and turns her head perpendicular to her body which was facing away from the mouse. So I decided to move the mouse away from her slowly so she wouldn't feel threatened. She ended up stalking it for a few seconds then striking it. So I let her be, and check back a few minutes later and she's detached and is looking for the head. I go back to the computer to let her be.

Then the phones ring... we have about 7 phones spread throughout the entire house. Someone changed the ring volume and ringer on about 3 of them. They are really loud and it's four different tones. It made me jump. I know more people would be calling so I had to run around and change them. And trying to sneak up on my ball's cage to see if she was disturbed, I run into a bookcase. It made a nice bang. So I peek into her cage from the one side that isn't blacked out, and her head is staring at me from atop her hide.

I was pretty sure she wouldn't eat at this point, but I let her be anyway to give her a good chance. I came back 30 minutes later and the mouse is gone. So I am about 98% sure she ate it... or she just drug it into her hide.

My mom is the same way and it irritates me sometimes because I don't think she will ever get over it. Lol. But thats awesome! Any pics of her?

Added: The sounds really wouldn't bother her because of the way snakes hear. Through vibrations not actual sounds like us. Another thing is with my BP, Precious anytime she STRIKES (even once), to me she is psychologically convinced she killed it. I have never had her strike at it and not eat it. I also feed F/T. You remind me of myself.

First day I got her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiJk015r7g4

Oh, my mom will get over it. I am going to start with her holding Pershwauld then I'll explain how snakes eat a couple of times. Then once she has a grasp of that, I'll show her the mouse/rat in various stages during a period of a couple of months. Then I think I'll ease into having her watch Pershwauld eat. At least that's the game plan.

    Science is quite fascinating.

LOL! Yeah. I gather mine hasn't ever been fed live because she strikes and waits until she's decided that it's "dead".

    Welcome to the forum, btw!

Nice sites, they say exactly what I did. Vibrations. Through there mouth/tongue. I don't think the phone bothered her unless she was eating the phone.

You don't understand. We basically hear through vibrations. A vibrations cause waves. We hear and see waves.
