    Night time temps

is it necessary to drop the day time temp from 89-91 to about 86-87 at night? or is this unnecessary?

    Thanks

Night drops are not necessary or recommended.

Since your BP is a pet I would advice against dropping night temps.

I would only recommend night drop during breeding season and only for sexually mature animals.

I would also not recommend over 88 degrees for an ambient temperature, 86 or 87 is a much more comfortable temperature for a ball python to be in.
90 to 93 degrees or so is great for a hot spot temperature though

    Re: Night time temps

I don't measure my ambient temp i do it from time to time but its usually about 27-78c, hopefully i can get a temp gun soon but ive just spent £70 on new thermostat and UTH cause the old ones were just horrible
and my hot spot is about 88-91

27ºC is great ambient air. Personally I would suggest (most care sheets also) ambient temps from 26ºC to 29.5ºC I would not suggest higher for long. Snakes handle a wider range of temps than what is recommended with out harm but they usually cannot digest food at these temps and will refuse to feed.

Night drops are not really needed often they happen anyway. Personally if I was to suggest a night drop i would suggest ambient only. and then not too far say down to 26º maybe 25.5º but only the ambient air temps leave the hot spot and the cool spot temps. It is very hard to do however some set ups are prone to this and often they happen if you have snakes in unregulated rooms they will drop as the room temp naturally cools off during the night. This is often all the night drop any would suggest anyway. If you have it that is fine I would not try to get one unless you were breeding and there are some breeders whom don't bother with drops either.
