    Wild green Eastern Hognose (pics)

I caught this Eastern in my pasture last week. I thought the hognose crowd here would like to see.

I let it go as I didn't have any extra room to try and keep it. It was way awesome looking in person, just a little bit greener than in the pics. It was the first hognose I've actually held in my hands, and I was surprised at how soft it was... kind of velvety almost, totally unlike my BPs. Are Westerns and the other varieties anything like that?
Here's a baby that I found a few months ago:

Anybody here keep Easterns? I've read that they're pretty tough to switch over to rodents, but some seem to have had success with them.

Huge thanks for posting this. Wow. What a beautiful snake. I am definitely jealous of the states and provinces that can keep Hognose. They are illegal here due to being native. Majorly disappointed.

So these photos are such a treat. Thank you!

Wow, (s)he is beautiful. I love Hognose noses, adorable! That baby is cute, too. Couldn't tell you anything on the husbandry or success of keeping them, but just wanted to say thanks for sharing the photos, they're awesome.

My western is not near that size but yes they don't feel how I think they appear they would. They appear to me to look rough but are surprisingly smooth. They were always my favorite snake to find and play with as a kid.

Mine is about a year and feeds on pinks by hand like a puppy. Just hisses a bit then crawls up and starts eating while your still holding it. Super gentle, I hope it stays that way.

Nice find! We mostly have the melanistic easterns around here, I miss finding the beautiful patterned adults. Easterns sure can put on a fantastic display too, did he hood, hiss then play dead?

The green one didn't hood, but hissed quite a bit before settling down for some picture taking. The baby did though, played dead and also showed me his half digested frog lunch, lol.
