    Typical MN weather BS.

Yesterday 90 and humid. No worries Herpstat II is hooked up so I can use the house AC to cool the home while the stat keeps snake temps perfect. And so was the case until 0400 this morning. Now there's a power outage due to severe storm and an ETA of 11 PM tomorrow for power. It's in the high 60's outside and 77 ambient snake room temp. Tank also 77. If it gets hot today we'll be ok except our food. Any ideas for the snake if it stays cool? Warm water soak maybe?

They will be perfectly fine for a day without a warm spot to bask and 90 is far from being too hot if it warms up. Think about where they come from in the wild. There are cloudy, cool, rainy days and times where the snakes can't find an ideal basking spot. Being out of what we as humans have deemed their 100% perfect environment (even though we don't know for sure that what we provide is what they would truly prefer) for a day won't cause any issues, lasting or temporary. Have fun finding something to do yourself! Maybe it's time to bust out a good book!?

Right on with the good book idea I actually have the complete ball python by Kevin McCurley should be good sounds like they've upgraded our power on status to 11 this morning so it should be about an hour from now. It's also going to be 91 and humid here today so the snake should be great now the kids and I have to figure something out just in case the power does not come on

Our power is out too. I'm more worried about the eggs in the incubator. But temps haven't dropped below 80 so I think they will be fine.

Good stuff. Here's an idea if you are home with the kids today and the power comes back on early. Pretend it didn't come on and find something for you and the kids to do together. Use it as a lesson for them that there are fun things to do without electricity (my kids wouldn't believe that) and it should be so good quality time with the kiddos! Maybe I am wierd but I like doing things like that.

Hey Lotsaballs,, we are powered up again hopefully you will be soon as well. They are saying high of 91 today so you should be OK on temps. I noticed your location is not far from mine.

    gsarchie,

the kids played with toy Marines and Army men for 2 hours. Now off to the kids club so I can workout, then I think we'll trip to the airport and watch a few heavies come in. Both of them and I love plane spotting.

I got a chance to wrap our glass tank with a nice quality reflective foil sheathing on the back and sides during the down time. I think it will really assists with inner tank temp regulation.

And,,, FYI for anybody who is on the fence about a Herpstat thermostat, i can say it worked like a charm after the power came back on. The digital memory ramped each heating device right back to perfect. I guess I feel a little better about power outages if the length is 24 hour or less.
