Night and day temperature difference in room.

I have read some people living in some regions that are hotter, that when the weather gets to 85 - 86 in the summer in your snake room, you just turn off the heat tape. I have a friend who has a similar set up and his snakes do well.

Now, in my house, during day time now it gets to 85 - 87F during mid day. But at night, it can fall to 81 - 82.

If I turn on the heat tape, and set it so that the hot spot is 89, it is perfect at night. The Ambient in the tubs cool side gets to 83 or so. But if I have it on, then during day time the hot end is still 89, and the cool side is like 87 - 88. The thermostat won't turn off during the day completely, because it doesn't reach the 91 I set the thermostat at to get the temp up to 89 in the tubs. The probe is directly on the heat tape outside the tubs and when the tape is off picks up ambient temps, so doesn't switch off until the tape is 91 and the hot spot is 89 inside.

I find myself wavering between wanting to turn the tape off or on.

I have left the tape off for a while and the snakes seem fine and eat well.

No I don't want to do space heater in the summer to get ambient temps to 85 at night it just seems silly and I have far too much stuff in that room already.

I am wondering if I should turn the heat tape so that it is at 85 - 86 in the hot end instead, so that during the day, ambient temps in the whole tub is 85 - 87 and during the night it is 85 - 86 hot end and 81 - 82 cool.

The snakes in this tub are about 400 - 600 gram range.

I would just leave the heat tape on... Let the thermostat do its job.

So leave it on and let it get to 88 - 89 in the WHOLE tub? Or leave it on set at a lower temperature with a lower basking spot?

Leaving it on at 89 basking spot, the thermostat will not turn off until the cool end is almost the same temperature. This is because it heats the cool end a degree or two, and during day time it is 86 - 87 as is.
