Thank you BP.net, for the hairdryer trick

So, first of all, thank you to everyone that helped me get sam eating.

Tonight, i conducted a mini experiment. I thawed out a large mouse, offered it to sam, who proceeded to look at me as if i had lost my mind.

Took said mouse, used the hairdryer on it for maybe 2 minutes ( i didn't have a watch) offered the mouse again, and in less than 3 mississippis sam had struck the mouse and proceeded to "kill" it.

So anyone who is having trouble with f/t mice, i'm telling you, try the hairdryer, it has made life so much easier for me

Hair dryers are so useful! Just keep in mind that mice are very light, and hairdryers have a bit of force in them. Nothing like blowing a mouse off the table and laughing hysterically for 5 minutes while the rest of the house thinks you've lost your mind ;D

Smile Re: Thank you BP.net, for the hairdryer trick

I haven't tried the hair-dryer technique but I'm willing to give it a shot to see if it works. I usually thaw out my fuzzies and put them under a heat lamp for about 5 minutes. My bp seems to strike at it and has no trouble eating (granted, he's only eaten 5 times because I got him about a month ago haha). I've seen the hair-dryer thing done on a YouTube video of a guy who keeps ball pythons so I'm sure it works very well. Thanks for posting!

i used to use the heat lamp too, but i think maybe the hair dryer works better because it gets the scent of the mouse in sams tank better (i use the hairdryer on the mouse right in front of his cage, and blow the air towards him)

both times ive done this, he has started peeking out of his hide and flicking his tongue everywhere looking for the mouse =D

Re: Thank you BP.net, for the hairdryer trick

The hairdryer is so perfect for feeding for the reason Chained gave. I don't heat up the rat underneath the tank and the scent always gets her attention and in feed mode. In the past when I would thaw a rat in hot water and drop it in, sometimes she would recoil from it since she wasn't prepared for something warm moving around her tank.

But my humble suggestion is to not offer the same hairdryer to your lady friends afterwards, they seem to have negative response from it
