    Talking Basement field herping

So all of the sudden my husband calls me "there's a snake in the basement!"

Oops am I in trouble, did one of my snake escape

Not really, I got in the basement and here is what I found, nice 3 footer

He has a few nasty bites here is one of them

I take a few pictures go in the basement for a minute or two with the snake and, hubby says "the snake is escaping"

I'm like what? And outside by the AC unit lays a 4 footer.

Yes it was, nice sight in one day, with all the raccoons and possums around here I was wondering if I would ever see some snakes, well I did

Is this one of those times when a single type of snake is known by several different names? Or maybe a locality thing? Down here we've been calling those Eastern Racers (not to be confused with Eastern Indigos) since I was a kid...Was I taught wrong in my youth?

    Cool snake

I wish I lived over there, all we have over here are garter snakes. I'm not saying they're bad or anything, but, I'd like to see a variety.

They are different it is more obvious when you look at the head, no sure if it will help but you can check them here http://srelherp.uga.edu/snakes/index.htm Black Rat, Black Racer

I am just glad to see snakes in my back yard, and lizards, possums, raccoon etc.....not something you see where I come from so it makes me enjoy it even more.
