    Hideboxes in racks?....a survey

Ok so i have my BPs in a couple of diiferent types of caging, several are in small Neodeshas with hides on the basking side....these snakes seem to be significantly better feeders than the ones in the racks.....i have been putting hides in the racks so when i go to feed i have to hope to catch them on the move late at night or i end up picking up the hidebox....they apparently DONT dig that cuz they never eat if disturbed in that manner.....question is "should i not be providing hides in rack tubs"? thanks for any assistance or insight

a hiding BP is a happy BP, hides are always important. less so in racks since tubs act like hides somewhat. Many people use at least 1 hide in tubs (on the hot side) while the BP's are young, but once they get big enough they stop putting in hides.

I pull the hides off of my BP's almost every feed day. and most of the time they eat. so it might not necessarily be the fact that you pulled the hide, but one of the billion other reasons BP's decide that they don't want to eat for us...

I have hides on all on my snakes, i feed them right before they start roaming. I leave my snakes in their hides and wiggle a rat at their entrance they take it 99 percent of the time. For me the key is getting the rats really hot with a blow dryer.

Some of mine have hides, some don't. I have a few that would never eat for me again if I didn't provide one, even in the racks. I have some that prefer to sleep in them like life boats. I have some that avoid them at all costs...it really depends on the snake.

I have hides for some and not for others. My little spider male prefers to smush himself between the hide and the tub, my pastel female likes 2 hides and a HUGE bowl so she never has to touch the ground (a little spoiled, that one) and no matter how many times I give my male mojo a hide, he'll shove it to the cool side and sleep under the paper towels instead.

I always use them for hatchlings. Usually pull them when they are big enough to get "wedged" between the roof of the hide and the ceiling of the bin. I pull them now because I just got new tubs from FB that have the cool deli cup holders.. which the tubs are a dark grey color and literally no light comes through, hence acting like a hide.

When I still used hides however, id leave the hide in the enclosure while snake is hiding, and drop the rodent in instead of pulling the hide. I saw that with the added comfort of the hide, some of my stubborn eaters would eat pretty well. They'd use their hut as a little ambush tactic... and God help the rodent who wanted to see what was inside the hide, haha.

    Hope this helps! Good luck

I have them in all of mines enclosures but they dont all really need them probably. They all eat fine, except for my pastel girl whose currently on strike. Usually i just get the rodent pretty hot with a blow dryer and then drop it into the tub. They all eat it when they find it, which is usually pretty fast lol.

I don't have a single hide with any of my ball pythons and they are all in racks. A few go under the paper once in awhile but the majority lounge around.

    Regards,
