    Petco Reptile Rally?

Who here has gone to one? My sister just texted me telling me to bring some snakes in tomorrow for the reptile rally. It sounded cool at first, but I don't want everyone's snakes to be too close to mine... I also don't have any way to display my animals .

Anyone ever show off their stuff at this event? I also noticed BP.net has an ad for the photo contest. Thought that was interesting.

Pics? Vids? I might just go to hang out with my sister and reptile lovers lol .

Depends on your specific petco and its staff. Just like a show, there is a chance of transmitting disease and mites, and that's a risk you have to weigh if bringing in any of your own animals. We have brought in a large group of our animals before, but we were the only people there with animals, and everyone had to use hand sanitizer. Once home they got a preventative treatment for mites.

If you are satisfied with the practices and treatment of the animals there, risk is smaller than a petco where the staff are horrible or ignorant Even if the habitats are very well maintained, are you confident that the staff will convey correct information about your animals if asked?

My Petco is dirty and their animals always look half dead. I would never bring my animals in there. It depends on your Petco and if you trust their animals and employees. I'd QT any animals you brought there once you brought them home.

Hmm I have never heard of this... But my petco is probably one of if not the nicest petco I have ever seen and their reptile exhibits are very well maintained!

My sister takes great care of the fish .

I don't trust their reptile people though.. To answer your question, NO. I already responded saying that I didn't feel comfortable bringing my snakes there. I'm just curious about who out there has . Sounds like too much of a hassle. I don't want to bring all my snakes.. I would've been maybe okay with bringing my first ever Petco snake .

I was thinking about taking my Western Hognose, and hadn't even thought about letting other snakes near her - at least not close enough to pass mites etc. Is it a really bad idea? She's just so adorable and friendly, I thought it would be fun to let the kids (assuming some will be there) meet her.

My local Petco is actually pretty nice, and the main reptile dude is fairly knowledgeable. Plus I've never noticed any sick-looking reptiles, mites, or dirty cages. Even the rodent cages are usually squeaky clean... no pun intended, LOL.

Should I bother, and if so, what precautions should I take before & after?

P.S. Have to admit, I'm also rather tempted by the photo contest (for which you have to attend the "beauty contest"). With a dog, 3 cats, 27 snakes, rats & mice, lawd knows I could use that $500 gift certificate!! I usually do my main shopping at Pet Club or the local-owned shop, but I'd be happy to spend free money at their store.

So I went there today. And while there were displays for it, there was literally no one participating. Not even any employees.

I went last year. I was the only person with a snake. Several people thought it was cool, a few freaked out.

I did get into a nasty insult trading match with a twit who was there adopting cats and kittens.

I am seriously considering taking one of my ball pythons. I asked my daughter if I brought my biggest girl up there for the beauty contest, and everyone else got scared and left, would we win by default ? She laughed.
